Leadership Team

Eric Savage, Co-Founder and CEO

Eric has well over 20 years of investment banking experience.  He moved to India in 2007 to help set up Unitus Capital (UC) and has led the company in raising well over US$1 billion for various social businesses.  He has had the privilege of working with many innovative companies that do life changing work in the fields of financial inclusion, affordable health care, renewable energy, affordable education, women empowerment and agriculture.  Previously, Eric directed Citigroup’s Asia Power & Infrastructure Investment Banking Group and helped secure and execute multiple landmark equity, debt and M&A transactions totalling many billions of dollars. Eric was based in NYC and Hong Kong for 14 years with Citigroup/Salomon Brothers. Eric also headed Salomon’s utilities sector equity research and was selected to Institutional Investors’ All-Asia research team.

Eric is a graduate (cum laude) of Duke University and of Harvard’s Kennedy School, where he received the Lucius N. Littauer Fellow Award, the program’s top honor.  Eric serves on a number of leading companies, funds and educational institutions’ boards.  He is a highly sought after speaker, particularly in the impact investing world.


Kylie Charlton, Co-Founder and Managing Director

Kylie has worked at the intersection of mainstream capital markets, impact investment and philanthropy since 2004 when she joined the team at Unitus Labs to lead their capital markets initiative. During her time at Unitus Labs, Kylie facilitated the delivery of growth capital for microfinance institutions across seven emerging countries and was instrumental in the launch of the Unitus Equity Fund, the first commercially focused microfinance equity investment fund. In 2008, Kylie co-founded Unitus Capital on the basis of this work and a commitment to mobilising capital to enable the success of businesses providing innovative market based solutions to environmental and social challenges.

In her home country of Australia, Kylie has been a key contributor to the development and growth of its impact investment sector. Her work in Australia includes: authoring submissions and participating in roundtables for commissioned studies of the Australian Government in regard to the development of the market for impact investment; consulting to and serving as an ex-officio committee member for the Australian Government in regard to Social Enterprise Development and Investment Fund (SEDIF); and co-authoring the feasibility assessment study and surveying investor appetite for the NSW Social Benefit Bonds (also referred to as social impact bonds) issued in 2013 which were the first in Australia and among the first in the world. Kylie is the Chief Investment Officer for Australian Impact Investments, a Venture Partner to the Giant Leap Fund – the first venture capital fund in Australia dedicated to impact businesses and an investment committee member of the Indigeneous Real Estate Investment Trust. She also lectures on impact investment for the University of New South Wales and University of Western Australia.

Prior to transitioning her career to impact investment, Kylie was Vice President in the Project and Structured Finance Group of Citigroup, with more than 10 years experience in commercial and investment banking in New York and Sydney.

Kylie graduated in Commerce (Banking and Finance) at University of Canberra and has an MBA from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford in England.


Abhijit Ray, Co-Founder and Managing Director

Abhijit has nearly 20 years of diverse experience in development finance, commercial banking and microfinance. At UC, Abhijit has played a key role in developing and building the firm’s business, particularly in the microfinance sector. Previously, Abhijit was an AGM with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), where he oversaw SIDBI’s microfinance portfolio in the state of Andhra Pradesh, and also acted as the business development manager for SME projects. Abhijit started his career with the State Bank of India (SBI), where he worked in a variety of business areas in six different locations within India. Abhijit has co-authored articles on microfinance in international journals and is regularly quoted in leading national dailies in India.

Abhijit has a Bachelors degree in economics from Kolkata University and is a Certified Associate of IIBF, Mumbai. He has also attended the School of Applied Microfinance Program in Kenya and the Program on Strategic Leadership for Microfinance at the Harvard Business School.


Ann Short, Chief Operating Officer

Ann joined Unitus Capital in 2008 and has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. Previously, she served as COO of Global Corporate and Investment Banking at Bank of America Securities, and was an Executive Vice President at NASD (now FINRA), where she launched a strategic initiative to support brokerage firm regulatory compliance. Ann began her career as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, where she worked for 18 years, rising to Managing Director. From 1994 to 1997, Ann was based in Hong Kong and Beijing, where her clients included the People’s Republic of China, as well as leading corporations throughout Asia, non-Japan. Upon her return from Asia, Ann worked on the Morgan Stanley / Dean Witter merger transition team and subsequently joined Morgan Stanley’s Fixed Income Division as Head of Global High Yield Corporate Research.

Ann has an M.S. in Management from the MIT Sloan School and a B.A. from Wellesley College.



Professional Staff

Vikas Sarda, CFO

Vikas joined Unitus Capital in June 2009,with over ten years experience in financial control, strategic and financial planning, budgeting, analysis and reporting, and sys

tem implementation and management. Vikas is responsible for a wide range of financial and operating activities, and has re-engineered accounting processes, established operating policies and procedures and implemented accounting and other operating systems at UC. Previously, Vikas was a Vice President with Amba Research, a financial services provider. Prior to that, Vikas also worked with Max New York Life Insurance and WNS Global Services.

Vikas is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelors degree with honors from Delhi.


Amit Agarwal, Vice President

Amit joined Unitus Capital in October 2015 with over nine years of experience. He had worked on both Private Equity and M&A transactions across sectors including consumers, engineering, renewable energy, retail and service industry. Prior to joining UC, Amit was Vice President at Ladderup Corporate Advisory Private Limited, a Mumbai based boutique investment banking firm where he has spent eight years. Prior to that, Amit was with Syntel India Limited as a Business Analyst for a year. Amit has done his MBA from ICFAI Business School, Mumbai and Bachelor of Management Studies from Mumbai University.


Amit Jhanvar, Vice President

Amit Jhanvar joined Unitus Capital in April 2015, with over nine years of work experience in Investment Banking and Research background. He has both debt and equity transaction experience and has worked across industries from consumers to industrials, healthcare, renewable energy, agri & allied industries, etc. Prior to joining UC Team he has worked with JR Laddha Financial Services, RRA Advisory, Ladderup Corporate Advisory and D. E. Shaw India.

Amit has a degree in Commerce from the Shivaji University and has done his MBA form ICFAI Business School, Mumbai.


Neha Mudaliar, Vice President

Neha joined Unitus Capital in February 2009 with six years of diverse work experience. At UC, Neha focuses on the renewable energy sector and is also covering the Philippines. She has been involved in deals in the renewable energy, microfinance and banking technology sectors for companies in India, the Philippines and Australia. Prior to joining UC, Neha worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Assurance and Business Advisory Services, with Ernst & Young in Global Tax Advisory Services, with Ambit Corporate Finance in their Investment Banking division and with Unitus, Inc. in their Portfolio

Neha is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, with a specialization in Analytical Finance. Neha has also cleared Level I of the CFA Program. Management team. She was also part of the senior management of an American start-up which primarily consulted to MFIs in the field of renewable energy technologies.


Richa Natarajan, Vice President

Richa has 9 years of investment banking and advisory experience. At Unitus Capital, she leads the agriculture practice and expansion into Indonesia. Prior to Unitus Capital, she was a manager in the business valuation practice at Deloitte in the US where she worked extensively on valuations of businesses and intangible assets for pre-acquisition planning, financial reporting and taxation purposes. Before Deloitte, Richa worked with the Corporate Finance practice of E&Y, where she was involved in preparing business plans and feasibility studies for companies in the IT, Hospitality and Real Estate industries in India.

Richa holds an M.B.A from the University of Pittsburgh with a specialization in Finance and Operations and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Bangalore University.


Deepak Srinivas, Vice President

Deepak leads the debt market practice at Unitus Capital. Deepak’s experience is largely in fixed income and he specializes in raising funds through non-convertible debentures. Prior to joining Unitus Capital, he worked with the Mumbai and Delhi offices of Darashaw & Co., a premier Indian investment bank. At Darashaw Deepak led the Urban Infrastructure Financing practice while assisting various mainstream entities raise debt funds from the domestic capital market in India. Deepak was also associated with the Bangalore office of Brand Capital where he evaluated multiple opportunities for a strategic investment by Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited – India’s largest media conglomerate. He holds a Bachelors degree in Finance from the College of Business Studies, Delhi University and an MBA from SCMHRD, Pune.


Sumit Jha, Associate Vice President

Sumit joined Unitus Capital in 2015 with 8.5 years of  experience in fixed income. He specializes in Fixed Income sales and has handled entire gamut of domestic financial institutions like Banks, NBFCs, Mutual Funds, Insurance, Pension, Brokers, HNIs and Family Offices. Prior to joining UC, he was working as a Team Manager with Debt Capital Markets, L&T Infra Finance at Mumbai. He was earlier working with ICICI Securities as Product Manager –  Fixed Income for their private wealth management, where he started and established the fixed income desk. He has also worked with Darashaw & Co Ltd, a premier Indian investment bank, where he was part of Institutional Sales team.

Sumit holds a B.Com (Honors) degree from Faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University. He has done his PG  Diploma in Capital Markets from Indian Institute of Capital Markets (Now, NISM), Navi Mumbai and also holds a PG diploma in Insurance & Risk management from BIMTECH, Greater Noida.


Devendra Jadhav, Associate Vice President

Devendra joined Unitus Capital in February 2012 from Cognizant Business Consulting, India. He has over four years of experience in Insurance and Technology related consulting and implementation work. At Unitus Capital, he has focused on equity and debt transactions in the healthcare and agriculture sectors. 

Devendra graduated from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and has a Bachelors degree in Technology (Computer Science and Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.


Ishita Verma, Associate Vice President

Ishita Verma has 6 years of professional experience in investment banking and advisory, across public and private markets. At Unitus Capital, she covers the financial services and agriculture/food sector practice. Prior to joining Unitus Capital, Ishita worked with Kotak’s Institutional Equities arm in Mumbai, advising institutional investors across India and Asia on their equity market investments in India. She has also had a brief stint with the Global Markets team at HSBC Global Markets as a Summer Associate.

Ishita is an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and a B A (Honors) in Economics from the Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.


Sudhesh Chandrasekar, Associate Vice President

Sudhesh joined Unitus Capital in March 2013 with close to two years of prior experience. He worked with ICICI Bank – Delhi as a Credit Risk Analyst, where he was responsible for conducting due diligence of SME & Agri Processing companies based in North India for the bank’s Internal Credit Rating process. He also interned with the Equity desk of Edelweiss Capital’s Wealth Management team in Mumbai. Sudhesh holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM-Bangalore and a Bachelors in Commerce (Honors) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. He has also completed CFA Level – III.


Chandrani Podder, Associate

With over two years of experience in fund raising at Spandana Sphoorty Financial Limited and the Chaudhary Group, the largest multinational corporation in Nepal, Chandrani joined Unitus Capital in 2012 and focuses on debt and structured products.


Samarth Tandon, Associate

Samarth joined Unitus Capital in 2015 with over 4 years of experience in Debt markets. He has previously worked with Darashaw & Co., a premier Indian investment bank where he was responsible for managing funds of the retirement trusts of corporates. He has also worked with Nomura India Holdings Pvt. Ltd. where he was responsible for valuation and risk assessment of the trades done for the UK division of the Nomura. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the South City College, University of Calcutta and an MBA from ITM, Navi Mumbai.


Vishnu Das, Associate

Vishnu Das joined Unitus Capital in July 2014 with close to 3 years of experience in Investment Banking and Equity Research. He was previously associated with Brand Capital, the investment arm of Bennett Coleman and Company Limited – India’s largest media conglomerate. Here, he evaluated multiple opportunities for investment and brand building activities. Prior to this, he worked on the Institutional Investors equity research desk at SBI Capital Securities Limited, covering the Infrastructure sector. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from The London School of Economics (external program). He has also completed the Chartered Financial Analyst Level  lll exam.


Rajdeep Sharma, Analyst

Rajdeep Sharma joined Unitus Capital in February 2015 with 2 years of experience in Corporate Finance. He was previously associated with Hinduja Group, a global conglomerate with diversified business verticals. There he worked in the Corporate Finance team of Ashok Leyland-Nissan JV with focus on Pricing and Taxation.

Rajdeep graduated from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Trichy. He has also completed the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification.
